The publisher of Manor Lords has supported the strategy game over a post that it believes promotes an “incessant expansion” viewpoint “that leads to numerous issues in the gaming sector.”
At the beginning of this year, Manor Lords entered early access, and it did so with a high level of success, garnering two million copies sold in its initial three weeks. However, similar to many early access games, the hype surrounding it has somewhat diminished, partly due to infrequent releases of major updates since its debut. A post by Hinterland’s CEO Raphael van Lierop, developer of The Long Dark, seemed to disapprove of this aspect on LinkedIn, mentioning that while they “truly appreciate the current state,” there’s “scanty substance” and it’s a “quite fascinating example of the risks of Early Access development.”
Lierop elaborated, “It was launched with a solid core game but lacked substantial content. A game heavily focused on systems requires either a variety of maps, gaming modes, or some level of procedurally generated liveliness to maintain its appeal.”
