Bungie, the mastermind behind Destiny 2, has unveiled intentions to trim 220 staff members, merge 155 remaining roles with Sony Interactive Entertainment, and shift responsibilities for one of its “incubation endeavors” to a newly established PlayStation Studio.
In an official statement by Bungie’s CEO Pete Parsons, he characterized this transition as “the most demanding adjustments we’ve faced as a studio.” Parsons referenced escalating production expenses, transformations within the industry, and prevailing economic circumstances as rationales for the overhaul, underscoring a dedication to advancing Destiny and Marathon.
The 220 employees facing layoffs constitute approximately 17% of the studio’s workforce, with Parsons highlighting that the downsizing will impact executive and senior management positions. He expressed compassion for those affected and vowed to furnish a comprehensive departure package encompassing severance pay, bonuses, and healthcare benefits.
