Microsoft is gearing up to venture into the mobile gaming realm by introducing its very own mobile gaming marketplace later in the year.
The acquisition of Activision Blizzard not only grants Microsoft access to popular titles such as Call of Duty, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft but also highlights the company’s commitment to the mobile gaming industry. With hit mobile games like Call of Duty and Candy Crush under its belt, Microsoft is aiming to seize the opportunity presented by this expanding market. During the Bloomberg Technology Summit, Xbox president Sarah Bond recently revealed that the company is planning to roll out the mobile gaming shop in July.
To ensure cross-device accessibility, the shop will initially launch on the web, with an application likely to follow suit. This strategic move follows Microsoft’s earlier announcement of its plan to establish a mobile gaming shop, a decision influenced by the Digital Markets Act of the European Union. Bond indicated that the shop will initially showcase games from studios owned by Microsoft, including Candy Crush Saga.
