An eagerly anticipated live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe has been underway, and now it appears to be materializing with the support of Amazon MGM Studios. The project has undergone several developments in the past, including Netflix withdrawing last year, yet Mattel has now joined forces with Amazon to breathe new life into it.
The decision to rejuvenate this project follows the triumph of earlier ventures rooted in Mattel’s intellectual properties, such as Barbie. According to Deadline, director Travis Knight, recognized for works like Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee, is playing a role in this endeavor. Variety has also disclosed that the film is scheduled for a cinematic premiere on June 5, 2026, with Chris Butler, Knight’s collaborator, working on the screenplay.
