The past week has been quite a turbulent one for Sony Interactive Entertainment, all due to the avoidable mistake made in relation to Helldivers 2. Surprisingly, the company, in collaboration with Arrowhead as the developer, announced that all PC gamers must set up a PlayStation Network account and connect it to their Steam accounts to continue playing.
While it had been an alternative for players to link their PSN accounts since the game’s release, swiftly making it obligatory did not sit well with many individuals, particularly because some are unable to create a PSN account due to the service not being accessible in their region. Sony was so insistent on this decision that the game had to be removed from sale in more than 170 countries where PSN is unavailable.
Predictably, the negative response was significant, causing a plunge in the game’s Steam review rating and generating widespread criticism. Amidst the rightful fury of numerous players, attention shifted to another significant Sony PC launch on the horizon: Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut.
