In 2002, Iron Maiden unveiled the record Edward the Great, featuring their finest tracklist from their vast music library. From Run to the Hills to the legendary rendition of Fear of the Dark at Rock in Rio, the record encapsulated the mesmerizing, extravagant essence of Iron Maiden’s melodies.
Similarly to how I felt when I tried it at Gamescom Latam, Atlus’ forthcoming RPG, Metaphor ReFantazio, stirred up those same emotions within me. It was delightful, intoxicating, and extravagant – reminiscent of a timeless Maiden record.
Atlus has a reputation for crafting authentic RPG adventures, with recent releases such as Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance and the Persona series showcasing diverse musical styles within the RPG realm. While Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance feels like heavy metal – bold and powerful – Persona games lean towards a more pop-influenced sound, reminiscent of pop punk.
If one were to equate Metaphor ReFantazio to a music style, it could be likened to progressive rock. Incorporating the finest features from various genres – funky bass lines, vigorous riffs, and a combination of clear and intense vocals – the game fashions a distinct concoction that is both familiar yet inherently unique.
