Regrettably, supporters of Crash Bandicoot will be disheartened to learn that work had begun on a fifth installment but was ultimately terminated.
The recent history of Crash Bandicoot has been quite tumultuous. The N. Sane Trilogy in 2017 revived the beloved character, captivating both long-time enthusiasts and a fresh audience. This triumph led to the resurrection of Crash Team Racing in 2019 and the subsequent launch of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time by Toys for Bob a year later. However, things have been quiet ever since. The arrival of Crash Team Rumble, a live service game, last year failed to meet expectations, with its last update arriving in March this year. The persistent query regarding the release of Crash 5 has now been resolved with the revelation of its cancellation.
Nicholas Kole, a talented character designer who contributed to projects like Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, disclosed that the game he was involved in, known as Project Dragon, was scrapped. Despite some rumors linking it to Spyro, Kole clarified that Project Dragon was, in fact, a fantasy game inspired by Minecraft. Kole hinted at the existence of plans for a Crash 5 that ultimately did not materialize, much to the dismay of fans.
