Recent reports indicate that Take-Two, having recently downsized its workforce by 5% in April, is contemplating the sale or closure of its independent publishing arm Private Division.
In April, Take-Two announced layoffs impacting approximately 500 employees, with subsequent reports suggesting that the studios responsible for Rollerdrome and Kerbal Space Program 2 were set to cease operations. Despite CEO Strauss Zelnick’s denials, IGN now reports that these closures are looming on the horizon as part of Take-Two’s broader strategy to divest or shutter its independent label.
As per IGN, Intercept Games, the developer of Kerbal Space Program, is reportedly set to wrap up operations on June 28, while Roll7 is also in the process of winding down. Despite this, projects such as No Rest for the Wicked by Moon Studios and Tales of the Shire by Wētā Workshop are still in progress under Private Division. Game Freak, famous for its work on Pokemon, is also developing a new title. Notably, a collaboration with Bloober Team for a new game fell through, leading the studio to explore other options.
Amid the uncertainties surrounding Private Division, efforts are still being made to back existing titles. For further details, click here.
