It has surfaced that The Lord of the Rings: The Pursuit of Gollum is set to undergo a bifurcation into two films, as revealed by Ian McKellen.
Warner Bros seems to be upholding their tradition of crafting Lord of the Rings films that exceed regular lengths with their forthcoming venture, The Pursuit of Gollum. Taking a cue from The Hobbit trilogy, although lacking ample source material, Warner Bros aims to elongate the narrative for monetary reasons. The project centered around Gollum, which was disclosed earlier this year, will now span across two distinct films. Ian McKellen, who disclosed this insight while appearing on ITV’s This Morning, conveyed his enthusiasm at the prospect of potentially revisiting his character in the upcoming movies.
McKellen, presently recuperating from an injury sustained during a theatrical performance, revealed that he had been approached regarding the forthcoming films centered on Gollum. Andy Serkis, known for his portrayal of Gollum in the original trilogy, has been slated to direct. The screenplay is anticipated to be finalized in the upcoming year, following which McKellen will deliberate on his involvement with the franchise once more. Inquiring about the film count, McKellen noted that he had been informed there would be two distinct movies.
