During the Summer Game Fest 2024, Ubisoft disclosed the gameplay of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, giving a glimpse of the forthcoming chapter in the covert action line. In advance of this, we engaged in a discussion with Simon Lemay-Comtois, the co-director of the game.
A unique aspect of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is the capacity to alternate between two distinct individuals, Yasuke and Naoe. We probed into how this mechanism will operate and the strategies employed to motivate players to engage with both characters, resulting in some compelling insights discussed below.
“We were captivated by the notion of committing to a specific gameplay style,” Comtois elucidates concerning the choice to incorporate two main characters rather than just one. “From the start, our intent was to stress that players need to make intentional decisions between stealth and combat, as opposed to effortlessly switching between the two.”
